26/11/2008 Wattle Hill  Sustainability Street Village Christmas Party

The Wattle Hill  Sustainability Street Crew held a fantastic end of year wrap- up on Wednesday. Speaking of wrap-up, a wonderful white elephant gift giving  game, got everyone into the spirit of a more sustainable silly season.  Sha put on a bonza  barby for all the folk. In  between eating and games, some great project ideas were discussed,  including ways of reducing herbicide/pesticide use in the local area.

Have a safe and happy Christmas and new year everybody and don’t forget to put the next meeting date in your diary. We’re  kicking of the year with ways to save water- don’t miss it!

Next Session  Wednesday 25th   February 2009, 7pm @ Rentoul Hall
Water Saving including monitoring/reducing water use and water saving  products.

Year Three
resilience – capacity building & longevity

whitehorsexmas08.jpg

End of Year break up with the White Elephant Gift Game, Bokashi and the new shopping trolley, more on “saving the precious Valley Heathy Forest” and most importantly sories from all the Villages.

Blackurn Lakes, Box Hill and Vermont South Villages reported on a year of “Sowing” their passion for a sustainable life and culture in the local community!  Idea for ‘09 were also documented – there were many!  Two which rose to the surface were -

  • resilience and spreading the load.  Obviously, the more the ideas and energy come as many Streeters as possible, the more Humanly Sustainable Villages will be.  To quote Hillary C “it takes a whole village to raise a (new) culture”
  • using the web!  Both John and Sue spoke about the need to share the culture through the internet.
Sustainability Street - Version Three:  SSA V.3

Ian spoke about the City of Whitehorse’s Commitment to the SSA in 2009 and alluded to the SSA-V.3.  The SSA-V.3 will go a long way to also serving the resilience, load sharing, communication and longevity issues raised by Streeters at the Lakes yesterday.

In the nuttiest of shells, V.3 is about ideas that will create greater local capacity ownership and joy/satisfaction, through bringing together cut through ideas and initiaitives from Villages around Australia (including Whitehorse) such as ...

  • SSA Web-Connect
  • re-discovering the “Sow” event, ie: simple, eventful ways to reach out to the community with engaging, inviting events.
  • the DIY SSA Village
  • back to basics – the core SSA Course and agendas – including “measuring results” and reporting to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
