City of Whitehorse

Vox has worked with the City of Whitehorse since early 2006 on the Sustainability Street Approach. This collaboration has resulted in brand new ways to approach grass roots community education in an ongoing, sequential and developmental learner driven program.

Streeters have regular hub meetings every other month and topics include water, waste and energy reduction. We also discuss other sustainable living issues as well - living locally and thinking globally!

Streeters will start a Train the Mentor course in June and July, which is to be followed up by a milestone event - Graduation in order to celebrate the achievement.

When you see a street sign like the one below

you will find a sustainability village out there!!!

NSW Environmental Trust

The Sustainability Street Approach is being adopted by three new councils and extended by the five exsiting NSW councils, some of who have been involved for nearly five years. The Sustainability and Environment officers from all eight councils recently graduated from the Train the Mentor course.

The next stage is to conduct the Invitation and Information Session in local places. These are very eventful and environmentally meaningful, fun and human scale "town hub meetings" which might include the music of a local artist or school band, an opportunity to speak passionately and best of all an opportunity to "express interest" in forming a local SSA Village.

After that, the training program will run over a twelve to eighteen month period. At the conclusion of the training, after the graduation ceremony, the experience in the past is that local people often get inspired to undertake a project together such a community garden, assisting each other connect grey water, holding a Sustainability Street Party, etc and so on. See elsewhere on this site for insight into some of the wonderful and imaginative project ideas that groups have created.

Please look at the
NSW SSA menu 2007!!!
