Located in inner city Melbourne, this mob will be forever famous for pioneering the Low Waste Limbo, an innovative, fun, household and neighbourhood challenge aimed at decreasing waste to landfill. SS Brunswickians proudly put low waste bin mark stickers on their waste collection bins to publicly commit to “this is how low, we aim to go!”. All participants in the Brunswick Low Waste Limbo Challenge reduced their household waste to landfill significantly, many achieving a staggering 50 percent and above reduction, whilst ath the same time educating their neighbours through the appearance of their intriguing stickers out in the street on bin collection day. Their initiative has since been replicated throughout Australia. The Deputy Premier of Victoria, the Hon John Thwaites, performed the honorary role of “Vice Chancellor of the Communiversity” graduating Sustainability Street Brunswick participants in March 2006.
