The program has primarily been auspiced by local government (read more to see the list), as well as peak organistions and agencies such as The Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges Natural Resource Management Board, the NSW Environmental Heritage Trust and City West Water, whose early support in particular, was seminal to the Approache's development. However, more recently, the Sustainability Street Institute has been promoting the DIY local Village. There are now around a dozen local groups across Sydney and Melbourne which have been set up by local people with little or minimal agency or professional practitioner support. We are closer to eaching our aim as environmental educators and community development workers, which is, to make ourselves redundant.
